Great British Energy BillContribution
The other amendment that I have put my name to is to do with the question, which we have dealt with before, of net-zero targets. They are important because, as we discussed, putting up wind turbines is not a free lunch. You have to create vast quantities of steel to do it, which means that somebody has to create massive CO2 emissions. We should have an audit that tells us how much CO2 we produce when we do these sorts of things. At the end of the day, we are carrying on because the production of wind, when it blows, is renewable. It is a cheap source at that stage, but a lot of expense has gone into putting up the wind turbines in the beginning. Surely we should be talking about having an audit that shows how much CO2 we are producing; otherwise, we would be in the rather ridiculous position of saying that we are doing all this to produce clean energy, which may not be as clean as we make it out to be. We may actually be creating CO2, which is the one thing that we are trying to control.
