However, while existing legislation might touch on aspects of digital identity theft, the Fraud Act 2006 does not explicitly address the unique challenges posed by digital identity theft. The lack of a specific offence creates ambiguity and could allow perpetrators to exploit loopholes. Creating a specific offence would provide clarity and demonstrate a commitment to tackling this growing offence. By conducting a thorough review, the Government could ensure that the legal framework effectively combated digital identity theft while promoting a secure and trustworthy digital environment for individuals and businesses.
