Recently, a brave Uighur woman called Rahima Mahmut, who has spoken at meetings here in your Lordships’ House, gave evidence about the case that the Uighur community won in the Court of Appeal in the UK. They were able to demonstrate that goods they had identified had been made by slave labour. At what risk are we placing companies that will be trading, because we have turned a blind eye to the realities of what is happening on the ground? I hope that, when the Minister responds to these amendments, he will be able to answer that. Certainly, from my point of view, if these amendments come forward again at Report, I will readily support them.
