The next argument that I will deal with is the suggestion that, as there might be savings because people will not be cared for as long, this will lead people to encourage people to have an assisted death. I do not accept that. Nobody who is in favour of this is in favour because it is a cost saving. The Treasury is not driving this; it is people who want to see those whom they love and themselves have a better death. I do not accept for one second that the consequence of this Bill being introduced is that doctors and other medical people will start to encourage people to do that.
