Debate
Great British Energy BillContribution
This is not the place to review all the arguments on this point—we debated them on 14 November and I am sure we will discuss them again—but many of us are doubtful that public money funnelled into renewable energy that delivers power only when the wind blows and the sun shines is likely to increase our energy security. Many of us doubt that renewables are likely to reduce household energy costs. We look at the persistent increase in electricity prices since the renewables programme began in 2004—now giving us the highest prices in Europe—and wonder when the benefits are to come.
