Great British Energy Bill

Contribution

Let us not forget the broader geopolitical and economic context within which we are legislating. As we have seen with energy crises across Europe, over-reliance on foreign imports can leave nations exposed to sudden shocks. This amendment would equip Great British Energy with the mandate to bolster domestic resilience, reducing our exposure to such vulnerabilities. It also aligns with our broader net-zero commitments, as energy independence and sustainability often go hand in hand. By investing in clean, home-grown energy sources, we would reduce costs for consumers in the long term while cutting emissions. Is that not the win-win for households, industry and the environment that we all want to achieve by 2050?
