Windsor Framework (Non-Commercial Movement of Pet Animals) Regulations 2024Contribution
I am sad to say that the institution that should be looking at the scrutiny of these matters, which affect the people of Northern Ireland, is of course Stormont. It should be doing the scrutiny work. The Windsor Framework Democratic Scrutiny Committee was set up under the Safeguarding the Union document to look at new or replacement regulations coming from the European Union. It is safe to say that it is not working. I have been watching it over this past period of time and Steve Aiken, MLA for South Antrim—a member of the Ulster Unionist Party—has said that it is “ironic” that the “least amount of scrutiny” is being done by the Northern Ireland Assembly.
