Speaking in the House of Lords on 13 November 2024
Debate
Persistent Organic Pollutants (Amendment) Regulations 2024Contribution
The noble Baroness, Lady Bakewell, asked about waste. As I said, waste containing POPs above the specified waste concentration limits must be diverted from landfill or recycling because it is important that they are destroyed—for example, through high-temperature incineration. The noble Baroness asked about salt mines in particular. I probably need to get back to her on that and her question about penalties. I have not got the detail on salt mines in front of me, and there is a range of options for penalties, so it might be helpful to lay that out in a letter to the noble Baroness and share it with the noble Lord, Lord Roborough. Have I missed anything? It was such a short debate.
