They have presided over the mass extraction of dividends of at least £85 billion. In addition to that, companies have also paid shareholders untold billions through intragroup transactions. Some water companies have been paying interest to other group members, the details of which I am afraid I have never been able to work out on a spreadsheet, but it also adds up to significant billions.
