Water regulators cannot be trusted by the people. They cannot be trusted to be even-handed to make the rules, and I have had time to present only a small sample of what they have actually been up to. This raises huge questions about their independence and effectiveness. The only way forward is for Parliament to scrutinise any rules and regulations they make, and for Parliament to approve. Only that way can we give some backbone to the regulators and ensure they act in the public interest, protecting people and the industry too.
