Water (Special Measures) Bill [HL]

Contribution

Neither companies nor regulators are honest and transparent about the payment of dividends. For a long time they have pretended that dividends were paid to parent companies and therefore were not really dividends at all. I am afraid that company law makes no distinction between who the dividend is paid to. Whether it is paid to a parent company or the shareholder, a dividend is a dividend. It is spelled dividend, it looks like a dividend and the accounts say it is a dividend; therefore, it must be a dividend.
