Given Ofwat’s failures in the past, Amendment 27 seeks to deliver scrutiny of these rules to ensure that Ofwat uses its powers under the Bill appropriately. We on these Benches are open to discussions about the timeframe for Ofwat’s publication of the first proposed rules, but we will be seeking movement from the Government on parliamentary approval for the rules. We also feel it is important for the industry to be given sight of the proposed rules before they come into effect, which is why publication prior to parliamentary scrutiny is important.
