The bosses of disgraced firms received more than £20 million of basic pay, pension contributions and bonuses last year. The Liberal Democrats’ annual sewage bonus tracker used analysis from Companies House records to show that water firms, including Thames Water, Severn Trent and South West Water, increased their bonus pool for executives despite polluting waterways with raw sewage. Thames Water bonus payments to executives almost doubled year on year, from £746,000 in 2022-23 to a staggering £1.3 million in 2023-24, despite Thames Water’s CEO quitting half way through the year following financial issues and Thames Water itself teetering on the brink of imminent debt-ridden financial collapse.
