Crown Estate Bill [HL]

Contribution

The Crown Estate has committed to publish its revised lease extension policy. As my noble friend said, this commitment was read out in this House on the Crown Estate’s behalf on 24 May 2024 during Report on the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Bill. The implementation of the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024 requires a programme of secondary legislation for many of the reforms. At the point that the relevant provisions of the 2024 Act come into effect, the Crown Estate will publish a revised lease policy, aligned with these reforms. Given that the implementation and timing of these wider reforms are not within the Crown Estate’s control, it may not be right to delay the commencement of the Bill on that basis.
