Speaking in the House of Lords on 27 April 2026

Debate

Agriculture (Delinked Payments) (Reductions) (England) Regulations 2026

Contribution

We have also provided a breakdown of how we plan to spend the average of £2.3 billion a year through the farming and countryside programme. That shows the planned spend for the years 2026-27 and 2028-29. However, as has come across incredibly clearly in this debate, we will not achieve either our environmental goals or our food security goals if farm businesses are not profitable. By increasing investment in our environmental land management schemes, we are helping farmers to protect the environmental and business foundations of farming: soil, water and pollinators. This will help reduce input costs and boost profitability.
