Speaking in the House of Lords on 27 April 2026
Debate
Agriculture (Delinked Payments) (Reductions) (England) Regulations 2026Contribution
While I am on the subject of profitability, I am delighted to see the noble Baroness, Lady Batters, sitting in on the debate, because her Farming Profitability Review is an incredibly important part of how we are trying to move farms into profitability. We published the noble Baroness’s independent review last December. It highlights the strong need for closer collaboration between farming, industry and Government, and—as the noble Lord, Lord Carrington, pointed out—greater clarity and certainty for farmers looking to grow and invest. The noble Baroness’s review offers a clear assessment of the challenges, of which we have heard many details tonight, alongside the 57 recommendations for strengthening farm businesses. We are already responding to a number of those recommendations, and we are looking at the other recommendations and how we would like to move forward. It is important that farmers have the right support to access the tools and opportunities to succeed.
