This funding will also be targeted at underserved areas of the country where it can make the biggest difference. Great British Energy estimates that this funding will support an initial 1,000 community and local energy projects, but this is just the start. Today, we send out the message to community groups, sports clubs, miners’ welfare institutes and village halls across the country that, in every community of Britain, we want to give people the chance to own their own energy, to transfer money from the pockets of energy companies to their community, and to generate income for the benefit of local people for decades to come.
