I will end with one story, which happened to me last week and which I did not expect. I was sitting opposite somebody who I have known for years, and he leant across to me and he said, “Have you been taking part in this Bill?” I said that I had been. He said, “On what side?” I said honestly that I was opposed to the Bill in principle, but had become more opposed to it as I had tried to discuss it. “I am very pleased”, he said, “I have a very seriously disabled child. Everybody who is in that position is frightened of this Bill, because it is going to be so easy to move from it to a position in which, when you are not protected, it is so much easier to say that someone does not have much quality of life, so why do we not just end it in the most dignified and sensible way?”
