We are told that the public are in favour of assisted dying, although I note that the public are always polled on the principle, not on the detailed provisions of an actual Bill. Still, it is obvious to all of us that the public think that Parliament ought to be able to come to an actual decision on this point one way or the other, but that is a complex and weighty question that I suggest requires careful consideration and consultation. Ultimately, only the Government are in a position to organise that.
