This is presumably why I understand the Government to be considering expunging existing child criminal records—a laudable aim. However, surely prevention is better than cure. We can prevent this expensive misery entirely by raising the threshold to 14, sparing thousands of children the corrosive and insidious effects of the criminal justice system and instead giving them the space to develop into wiser young people.
