Speaking in the House of Commons on 2 September 2026

Debate

Representation of the People Bill

Contribution

I planned to speak in depth on new clause 31, but I will not for fear of upsetting you, Madam Deputy Speaker, and your favour in letting me speak early. I shall pop downstairs now to speak at the Portakabin reception, if anyone would like to join me, but I wanted to put on record those concerns. I feel that we can still go further on donations and foreign interference, particularly as we see Russia’s threat. I ask the Government to look again at whether we can bring forward a national commission on electoral reform to give a clear answer about how we ensure that people are represented.
