Representation of the People BillContribution
Too many of us are already feeling this, but what if we do not act? Too many of us are already asking whether, if we had known what we now know when we were considering going into politics all those years ago, before the acceleration of the online hate and disinformation that is infecting and destroying our politics, our public sphere and our public life, would we have gone into politics? Sadly, that is now the case for far too many people in local and regional and national politics, particularly women. However, this is not exclusively about women, because I have seen male candidates targeted and harassed, with online hatred spilling over into physical threats and intimidation, threats to their families and threats to their lives. It is out of control.
