Representation of the People BillContribution
As we have seen, the home of a British Prime Minister, the former right hon. and learned Member for Holborn and St Pancras, was firebombed by Russian assets, and there was a Russian-backed tsunami of misinformation, smearing him, surrounding the case. I would guess that most, if not all, Members here today will have experienced intimidation as a result of online hate—be that in their homes, on the streets or in their communities. However, the big concern is that online hate is no longer just about people letting off steam, because it can play out in the streets very rapidly. Some of us experienced that many years ago, but it is now widespread, and it cannot go on. That is why I support the new clauses that tackle the industrial-scale threat from foreign interference, foreign state actors and other hostile actors.
