Representation of the People Bill

Contribution

At the last general election, the level of hostility towards me when I went outside some polling stations in my constituency to see how things were progressing was off the scale. That is not acceptable. Loud, noisy people—mainly men—were screaming and shouting at me as well as at the voters trying to get in to vote. That is not acceptable. We must make sure that the existing laws are enforced by the police, because they were not at that time. Vans were chasing us with banners full of disinformation and fake slogans—all sorts of things—in a way that I never thought I would see in our democracy. That is not on; people should be arrested.
