Representation of the People BillContribution
Although arrests happen, the onus is then on the candidate to seek prosecution, and that generates more abuse and hostility. The local members and activists who are being harassed are too scared to go for prosecution, because the harassers know where they live and threaten to target them. It is on the state to take action to protect democracy, rather than up to candidates and ordinary citizens who are simply campaigning for democracy and their party. We need to look at those issues and ensure that people are protected and able to vote safely, securely, and without fear or intimidation.
