I recognise that people giving money to causes that they care about is a noble and honourable thing. We do not have state funding for politics in this country. We have many ways that we support our politics, and I recognise and value the contribution that people have made, however big, to that process. The problem is when the cause people are donating towards becomes themselves. We see that fear echoed across every community in this country. We know that the next election will be like none we have ever seen before, not just because of the artificial intelligence deepfakes, but because of the amount of money that is swilling around from those seeking to determine the outcome of the next election.
