Representation of the People BillContribution
We are all damned by association if we do not close the loophole. Hindsight is a wonderful thing; foresight is better. I do not often say this, but I agree with President Trump. A system that can create those kinds of relationships is broken, and it damages all who touch it. We need to act now to protect the next general election. Nothing less than action before then for a proper cap will do. That is what new clause 21 does; it gives a process. Let me reassure Members that in that process, trade unions can be heard, and non-party campaign organisations such as Hope Not Hate can be heard. It also means that, with the difficult choices we face ahead, we can look our constituents in the eye and say that we can be confident that we did not act for cash; we acted for our communities and our country. Surely everybody in this country deserves that confidence in their elected representatives.
