Representation of the People Bill

Contribution

When it comes to voting for 16 and 17-year-olds, so many of them ask such good questions when we go on school visits. We sometimes get dangerously close in this debate to arguing for a mental capacity test for voting. We do not test people in our system on their intellectual ability. The franchise is there because the needs and issues of people who do not have a say do not get represented, and that is why it is vital that we enfranchise 16 and 17-year-olds.
