Representation of the People BillContribution
We cannot have money from overseas coming into our politics, and we cannot have cryptocurrencies that are untraceable flooding Westminster. We know where that will lead. Associating with these super-rich donors, however many suits they buy or receptions they sponsor, in the end only causes harm to the political parties that they support. We should be clear about this: how many of our constituents could even dream of donating hundreds of thousands of pounds to a political party? Any cap needs to be much more realistic, and not still pander to those who are well connected and use their money to gain advantage. Let us start to recognise that our democracy will flourish only when we start to redistribute not just wealth, but the power that goes alongside it.
