However, I begin by addressing the points made by the shadow Secretary of State, the hon. Member for Weald of Kent (Katie Lam). I really do welcome her to her new position, and wish her the best in the role— I know that she will be a formidable force to battle across the Chamber. But let us be honest: this is not the first time that the hon. Member has jumped on the Reform bandwagon. I refer to that party’s call in relation to so-called non-native languages during elections. Thankfully, we have now decided that Welsh and Cornish are no longer on the banned list, but it would be helpful to know exactly how far the hon. Member wants to go in her war on non-native languages. It is good to see a Member from the 2024 intake in the role, but I will give her a little bit of advice: they will not be able to out-Reform Reform, so don’t bother trying.
