Speaking in the House of Lords on 7 September 2026

Debate

Falkland Islands

Contribution

Very fond memories. Let me be clear. The sovereignty of the Falkland Islands is non-negotiable as far as the UK Government are concerned. It always has been and it always will be. The whole House will I am sure agree with me that we need to reiterate that fundamental principle. Political unity here is really important. The noble Lord mentions defensive forces. We have a variety of military capabilities there for defensive purposes, but it is very important that we do not speculate and get into hypothetical situations.
