Financial Services and Markets Bill [HL]Contribution
Amendments 51, 54 and 56 seek to amend Clause 18 or remove it in its entirety. The reforms in Clause 18 form a core part of the Government’s approach to improving the regulatory framework by striking a better balance between ensuring that only those accountability mechanisms which are appropriate and valuable are retained while not overloading the regulators with administrative requirements which fail to provide commensurate benefits. The Government have targeted only a limited subset of lower-value requirements. The broader accountability framework remains in place, with very significant reporting and transparency requirements. The Bill also introduces new accountability measures, including long-term strategies and reporting on competitiveness and growth.
