I predict that, when we in Parliament consider the next financial services Bill—as we do every few years—we will return to accountability. We may well not get a step change in how we hold the regulators to account until there has been a major regulatory failure that the regulators do not manage to talk themselves out of. Then, hindsight on accountability will be a wonderful thing.
