The RFCAs’ national board consists of the chairs of the 13 regional RFCAs, with a paid national chief executive and other non-executive members, plus representatives from the services. The body is responsible for a budget of about £120 million, mostly spent in small sums across several thousand reserve centres and cadet huts. This estate is spread from the remotest location in the Scottish Highlands and Islands to cities across the UK. The membership and association boards have the expertise and connections in these vastly differing locations that are vital to effective allocation of funds, cadet development and reserve support all around the UK. This professionally led but volunteer-based federated structure is familiar to anyone who has volunteered in a local political party, a parish, a sporting association or a charity. The membership is to be abolished by the Bill.
