The reason this is so serious is twofold. First, the lawfare directed at our Armed Forces over the past decade has had a serious impact on morale, recruitment and retention. We know that the SAS raised concerns about recruitment as a result of this Government’s—I am sorry to say—shameful decision to restart prosecutions of the Troubles veterans. Further high-profile prosecutions and civil proceedings relating to more recent conflicts have exacerbated the problems.
