Regarding the clean heat market mechanism, it is a key part of the Warm Homes Plan, providing industry with the confidence to invest in the transition to low-carbon heating and is welcomed. Alongside the boiler upgrade scheme, it sets achievable targets to make heat pumps more attractive and affordable for consumers. Heat batteries are intended to complement heat pumps, which are expected to remain the primary technology supported through the boiler upgrade scheme. Contrary to the noble Lord’s argument, they add to consumer choice, which is to be welcomed, and they help people in different settings within their housing arrangements.
