Lord Lemos (Lab)

Speaking in the House of Lords on 12 October 2026

Debate

Public Office (Accountability) Bill

Contribution

I am sure the noble Lord will understand that I do not want to do that without getting some advice from my officials, but I will certainly come back to him on it. The Civil Service Code and the Ministerial Code are very specific things. The purpose clause does not define the specific requirements of the Bill; it is the substance of the Bill. I am very happy to get good advice. I do not want to say things that I might have to correct. I do not see any particular issues with the Civil Service Code, but I will happily check. For the reasons I have given in relation to the overall purpose clause, I hope that the noble Lord will be prepared to withdraw his amendment at this stage.
