Public Office (Accountability) Bill

Contribution

Amendment 17 from the noble and learned Lord would make the position for fatal accident inquiries consistent with other types of investigation in the Bill. It would achieve this by requiring the procurator fiscal to give a compliance direction to a public authority or official if they are satisfied that the person’s acts are relevant. The Government’s view is that the noble and learned Lord has raised a valid point, which we are considering and on which I will come back on Report with my officials’ advice.
