Railways Bill

Contribution

My noble friend Lord Berkeley mentioned that freight has its own timeliness. That is increasingly true, particularly of container freight to the Midlands. One of the reasons—when we get on to capacity—for having a fresh look at the capacity of the network is to give paths where they are needed and to take paths away where they are not needed. I am better briefed on Cornish lithium production than I was two weeks ago, and the target will ensure that GBR takes such proposals seriously and seeks to find usable paths. That is the reason, when we get on to capacity, for GBR’s duty to make the best use of the railway infrastructure.
