Railways Bill

Contribution

In conclusion, we know, and it is accepted, that the issue of violence against women and girls is a national emergency. Women and girls often feel unsafe on our trains. If the Government legislated to ensure that matters highlighted in subsection (2) of the proposed new clause in Amendment 210 were introduced, things would improve and it would send a very clear signal to the whole rail sector about the focus on this issue from the top of the department. A gold standard on safety should not be negotiable. It should be implemented by Ministers and be a requirement on GB Railways.
