Crime and Policing Bill

Finally, I will briefly address my Amendment 461C. The purpose of this amendment is simple, modest and, I would argue, indispensable: to ensure that Parliament receives annual, detailed and transparent statistics on the realities of abortion in our country. These statistics would specifically concern the sex of the foetus, where determinable, as well as the ethnicity of the mother and any medical complications arising from the procedure. Amendment 461C would equip Parliament with information necessary to safeguard women and understand disparities. It would not change the law on abortion but allow the Government to tell Parliament the truth about what is happening.
