I now turn to some technical Government amendments. Amendment 38 to schedule 2 clarifies that new audio recording requirements in magistrates courts appeals will not apply to single justice procedure cases. These cases are generally dealt with on a computer without an oral hearing to record. Government amendments 39 to 41 to schedule 2 make further changes arising from the new permission stage for appeals, ensuring magistrates courts have the necessary powers over bail and costs, including to return an appellant to custody where appropriate.
