Courts and Tribunals Bill

Contribution

At the heart of Jack and Paul’s law is a simple principle: a child’s safety must always come first. As the Minister for victims, my hon. Friend the Member for Pontypridd (Alex Davies-Jones), has said, if we remove the presumption of parental involvement, the courts will approach every case on the basis of what is best for the child. Where a parent poses a risk, courts will continue to be able to restrict their involvement. Children have a right to live free from harm. Claire’s loss was the ultimate loss for any parent, but the violence that ended with Jack and Paul being murdered by her ex-husband started with his violence against her. Other measures in the Bill will cumulatively act as a shield and a sword for victims like Claire.
