Debate

Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill

Contribution

My noble and learned friend Lord Falconer and I were both members of the new Labour Government, he in a much more senior role. He could wipe out many of the amendments, including those he has tabled, by operating the general policy of the new Labour Government, which was generally, in different departments, to accept the recommendations of the Delegated Powers Committee. I represented four department in this House and two in the other. In two of those four—Northern Ireland did not really count because there was no legislation—the point was made in day-one briefings that we generally accept the Delegated Powers Committee’s recommendations.
