Debate

Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill

Contribution

I am sure we can all think of examples where there are things that we all agree need fixing, such as social care reform. It is something we all agree needs to be fixed, but very significant amounts of time pass and nothing happens. We have identified that there is an issue here—and we have heard from, I think, three KCs that there is definitely an issue—and though you cannot be sure that it would definitely turn out on way or the other, there is enough doubt that you would not want to test it. It would be better to fix it now. If the noble and learned Lord, Lord Falconer, on reflection, does not think he wants to fix the issue, I and probably other noble Lords would want to bring forward a more robust amendment on Report that actually dealt with the problem. It would probably be along the lines of making it clear that the chain of causation under the Fatal Accidents Act was not broken.
