Northern Ireland Troubles BillContribution
Finally, I want to remember how we got here. The previous legislation promised certainty; instead, the legacy Act passed by the previous Government was opposed by every party in Northern Ireland, by almost every victims group, and by the Irish Government, and was found to be incompatible with the law. Also, many veterans did not want immunity, because that put those in uniform, or veterans who had previously worn uniform, on the same footing as terrorists and paramilitaries who acted outwith the law.
