Northern Ireland Troubles BillContribution
This Bill should not bother too much the paramilitaries who wreaked mayhem and chaos on Northern Ireland for all those years. They never kept any records. They do not have any filing cabinets. Indeed, they went out of their way to destroy evidence, as they did in 1992, in the bombing of the forensic laboratory in south Belfast. We know that Governments, in the conduct of the 1998 agreement, went out of their way, wittingly or unwittingly, to destroy evidential material relating to decommissioned weapons and the use of people who might have been disinterred. That was forensic material that could have been used as admissible evidence.
