Northern Ireland Troubles Bill

Contribution

I want to conclude by talking about an incredible group of people we met today through the Commission for Victims and Survivors. Two of them—very different people—were constituents of mine. There was incredible woman called Mary, a veteran. Her husband was a UDR soldier gunned down and murdered in cold blood. The other constituent came from the Lagan part of the constituency. His relative, an RUC officer, was murdered at mass. Those two people are my constituents and I do not discriminate between them, and neither should anybody else in this House, but too often I feel that that the opposite narrative has swept into the public consciousness, though I am sure that Members would not want that. It is important that we put that on the record.
