Northern Ireland Troubles Bill

Contribution

That brings me to the significant partnership with Irish Government that is woven throughout the entire process. Why are this Government so willing to take Irish assurances at face value? We have been here before. Chief Superintendent Harry Breen and Superintendent Bob Buchanan were murdered by the IRA after leaving a meeting at Dundalk Garda station. The Smithwick tribunal found clearly that there had been collusion in their murders, yet those families are still waiting on answers. Then there was Ian Sproule, murdered by the IRA outside his home near Castlederg in 1991, aged just 23. His family’s solicitors have raised the IRA’s possession of Irish police documents containing his photograph and personal details. His family have long suspected collusion and have fought for a proper investigation, yet they are still waiting for answers.
