Northern Ireland Troubles BillContribution
I am glad that the Government have moved amendments to ensure that the lawful actions of our armed forces are not legally equated with terrorism, and to prevent the unacceptable, distressing cold-calling of our elderly veterans. Our veterans deserve protection from vexatious, repeated investigations, yet even now, a veteran is going through his fourth round of judicial investigation. What is the point of this Bill if it is not to stop the abuse of the process? Let us fix the foundations of the legacy commission as well. Others have spoken about the structure and design of the commission. How can my constituents be assured that this body will truly hold perpetrators to account?
